22 Tradition and Change in Swedish Education folkskolor, and progressively increasingly selective and diversified schools, realskolor, and post compulsory academic and vocational provision in gymnasium and yrkeskolor, has been replaced by an integrated series of end-on institutions. The basic compulsory sector, grundskolan, has been extended to the age of 16 and divided into the three stages of 7-10, 10-13, 13-16. The post-compulsory sector has been integrated into a common gymnasieskolan, and instead of catering for some 10% in the selective upper secondary school, now caters for virtually all 16 year olds.
