HR Generalist

Job Description:

 

The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with the HR Director in supporting 10 counties from Galveston to Richmond, TX.  This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration back-up, employee relations, training, performance management, metrics and analytics, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment, affirmative action and employment law compliance.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Responsible for Employee Relations to include investigating employee relations matters; assist in writing/editing employee corrective actions/warnings and performance improvement plans, make recommendations that effectively resolve complaints, and/or gather information and documentation to support appropriate solutions.
  • Responsible for new hire onboarding to include, but not limited to on-boarding invitations, background checks, timely completion of offer letters, and create personnel files.
  • Responsible for managing professional development (tracking and executing/facilitating training) and the performance appraisal process.
  • Responsible for coordinating New Hire Orientations and facilitating new hire tours to include driving on highways, freeways and streets in personal or agency vehicle if needed.
  • Responsible for managing Leave of Absence, FMLA, and Workers Comp Administration; and will assist in coordinating agency-wide Health and Wellness Intiatives.
  • Perform functional area audits monthly, yearly and bi-yearly and HR analytics and metrics.

Other Duties

  • Assist in development and implementation of annual compensation review and personnel policies and procedures; assist with revision of Employee Handbook and creation of policies and procedures manuals.
  • Participate in developing department goals, objectives and systems. Generate management reports (Affirmative Action, attendance, retention, compensation, HRIS, etc.).
  • Perform back-up support for teammates in unemployment claims, benefits administration and recruitment.
  • Support efforts to ensure legislative compliance (FLSA, EEO, ADA, FMLA, etc.).
  • And, participate in ad hoc projects, assist team members, and perform other duties, as assigned.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor Degree (HR Management or business-related degree) or equivalent education and work experience.
  • PHR; SHRM-CP or eligible and willing to obtain within 12 months of hire.

MINIMUM SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Identifies and defines employees' skills gap and education needs to increase employee performance and achieve business objectives.
  • A combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the role. 
  • Five years of related experience with at least one year of new hire on-boarding experience within a human resources department. 
  • Knowledge of state and federal employment laws and compliance programs (FLSA, EEO, ADA, FMLA, etc.) required.
  • Broad employee relations experience and processing benefits.
  • Experience developing presentations and presenting data and recommendations to management teams
  • Previous experience supporting various cultures, professions, and educational backgrounds preferred.
  • Must be self-directed, self-motivated, and able to multi-task successfully.
  • Holistic perspective of the importance of providing premier service to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to positively interact and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Understanding and support of Catholic social teachings.
  • Mission-driven, solutions-oriented work ethic.
  • Proficiency in or knowledge of a variety of HRIS and computer software applications, especially Taleo, Alliance/AllPay, Excel, Microsoft Word.  
  • Ability to learn new software programs and system processes with ease.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in keyboarding and file maintenance, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to develop spreadsheets and databases.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish helpful.
  • Demonstrated time management skills; ability to handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated success in dealing with a variety of people, staff, senior management, and volunteers.
  • Ability to interpret and disseminate information to individuals and groups.
  • Attention to detail, accurate data entry and excellent proofing capability.
  • Ability to work under pressure, in a dynamic environment and manage deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • Nonprofit experience is preferred, but not required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have reliable transportation, valid Texas driver’s license and valid vehicle insurance
  • Position requires driving in personal vehicle and/or Agency vehicle to include freeways and highways to satellite offices, job fairs, and offsite meetings and events, throughout the 10 counties Catholic Charities serves from Galveston to Richmond and surrounding towns as needed.
  • Must be able to work on a flexible schedule as needed to meet work, program and project deadlines.
