Advancement / Development Director


Since 2008, Luminaria has evolved as a dynamic arts organization charged with producing an annual multidisciplinary contemporary arts festival. The festival was conceived to stimulate creative development by commissioning local, international and national artists to stimulate creative place-making throughout downtown.  Luminaria’s strength is garnering partnerships with downtown neighbors, businesses, arts institutions, artists and public and private agencies who together believe that the arts are central to a vibrant urban core.




Luminaria is seeking an Advancement/Development Director who is enthusiastic and passionate about fundraising with a sense of resolve. The position’s main task is to lead all aspects of Luminaria’s fundraising efforts including securing donors,  sponsors,  and grants from individuals and corporations as well as public and private funding organizations and foundations; managing gift acknowledgments, and grant reporting so Luminaria remains in good standing and meets local, state and federal reporting requirements. The Advancement/Development Director reports to the Executive Director and Board Development Committee.


Essential Responsibilities:



·      Develop and implement a strategic fundraising schedule in coordination with the Board Development Committee within 30 days.

·      Secure existing and new donors and manage donor retention to sustain short and long term goals.

·      Track and maintain all donor gifts, pledges and acknowledgements

·      Submit monthly activity reports

·      Develop sponsorship levels and packages as part of the overall development strategy to help create additional revenue streams



·      Prepare, submit and manage grants in collaboration with Executive Director

·      Have knowledge of local, state and federal grant opportunities and trends.

·      Maintain a funding schedule of application and reporting deadlines

·      Establish and cultivate relationships with grant monitoring agent(s)

·      Maintain grant compliance by preparing and submitting required reports to foundation or government agencies.  


Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

·      Capable to perform with a sense of resolve

·      Competent to adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions

·      Able to work well with others to achieve shared goals

·      Develop and maintain professional conduct at all times

·      Proficiency in MS Excel and Word required

·      Experience with donor databases a plus

·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills

·      Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

·      Passion for and knowledge of arts

·      Able to engage with culturally diverse audiences, partners and donors.  Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

·      Flexibility to work evenings and weekends


Education and Experience:

·      Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with preferable coursework in English, Communications, Public Administration, Arts Management or another related field

·      3-5 years of experience in fundraising and development

·      1-3 years of experience in the non-profit sector, arts field a plus
