Job Description:

San Antonio Museum of Art is seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional to lead the Museum’s fundraising efforts. The Chief Development Officer will lead the overall strategic fundraising operations of the Museum. This individual will be responsible for major gifts, grants, membership, annual giving, planned giving, fundraising events and sponsorships. This position works under the direct supervision of the Museum Director, is a member of the senior leadership team, and works closely with the Board of Trustees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and update strategic plans for development and membership.Ensure donor retention through a stewardship plan that includes appropriate gift acknowledgement and recognition.
  • Ensure accurate and timely record keeping of all development and membership revenue.
  • Develop and maintain forecasts of annual contributed income goals.
  • Create a solicitation plan for individual, corporate and foundation donors in partnership with the Director, key staff, and BoardMembers.


  • College degree or higher in a related field of study; relevant work experience
  • Experience and proven track record of success in fundraising
  • Museum experience preferred
  • Minimum of 6-8 years’ experience in successful fundraising, especially the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major giftdonors
  • Demonstrated track record in essential development skills: annual fund, major gifts, capital campaigns, corporate giving, membership and planned giving
