What's Happening @SWKey and EAPrep
Southwest Key

April, 2013

On March 23, 2013 families, leaders, activists, and community came together for the "Si Se Puede" march in Austin, Texas.
Honoring Cesar E. Chavez’s legacy of workers’ rights, civil rights, environmental justice, equality for all, peace, non-violence, children and women’s rights, the march started at the Terrazas Library and ended at Austin's City Hall in a rally with speakers, music, and dance with performances from EAPrep & Southwest Key's Latino Arts Preservation Program students.
Later that evening, three EAPrep students were among the recipients of the Cesar E. Chavez “Si Se Puede!” Awards: Arlette Flores, Jennifer Gonzalez, and Steven Ugalde.

Imagine finiding the job you you want in 1 month!

An immigrant from Chile to East Austin, Cesar Gonzales began taking basic English language classes 2 years ago at Austin Community College. But even with his new English skills he was still working as a waiter despite his highly technical college training from Chile.

From the initial meeting with Southwest Key career coach Rafael Ramos, Gonzales was able to find a job in his field within one month. Gonzales credits Ramos' ability to speak in both Spanish and English and get to the heart of what Gonzales' needs were as a job seeker for finding him a position so quickly. (Read more)

The FREE Career Coaching program is a part of East Austin Children's Promise and is available for all residents of Travis County. Contact Rafael Ramos at rramos@swkey.org or 512.462.2181.
