Building a Future for an Aging Population
Central Texas Senior Ministry (also known as Meals & Wheels) was informed that it was one of two agencies in the state of Texas to receive a grant through the Walmart Building The Future Vision Grant.
Meals & Wheels received a grant of $41,500 through the Walmart grant funds given to the Meals On Wheels Association of America. MOWAA distributed grants to 24 agencies throughout the United States.
Executive Director, Melody McDermitt of Meals & Wheels said, we have utilized pro-bono support in the past to conduct Board and Staff development training and the development of the 2005-2010 Strategic Plan. However, due to the limited funding available, the 2005-2010 Strategic Plan did not contain a provision for meeting the need for Board of Directors' training or staff training regarding governance issues, major technology issues that are currently facing the agency, nor new fundraising strategies to prepare for a rapidly aging society.
The Building The Future Vision Grant will provide the funding necessary to develop a five-year Strategic Plan that will sustain the agency and produce long-term results. Systems will be in place for finding, growing and maintaining the resources the organization needs to function – both human resources and financial resources – sustainability aimed not only at the survival of the organization -- but also sustainability that facilitates growth to serve more people with high quality services in communities that have high levels of poverty and a growing senior population.
Meals & Wheels serves Falls, Hill, McLennan Counties, and the City of Waco. They coordinate three services in these areas: Meals On Wheels, Senior Centers, and CTSM Transit. For more information, please contact, Libby Bellinger, Associate Director, (254) 752-0316 or email@example.com.
