SNAP Supporters Excel in Photo Contest
Four Supporter Photos in Top One Percent of Spay Day USA Contest Results

Kabuki, a top vote-getting in the Spay Day Photo Contest

Winners of the Spay Day Online Pet Photo Contest have been announced, and four photos submitted by SNAP supporters finished in the top one percent of the voting. One photo was even in the top 100. That’s quite an accomplishment considering there were over 45,000 photos submitted for the contest. There were a total of 294 entries benefitting SNAP. SNAP gets a dollar for each vote cast for its entries (minus credit card fees). The total comes out to $4,592.89! That’s a great showing, and it makes SNAP one of the top finishers in the contest. See the top four and the full story.

A project by Ms. Deborah Hoffman and SNAP to rescue abandoned animals from Houston's infamous Corridor of Cruelty and Neglect was showcased on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, in a live report on KPRC Local 2 News a 6 A.M. The story included a remote report from the Houston mobile clinic, which was stationed near the site to sterilize the animals. Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!
SNAP Selected as Volunteer Beneficiary of Houston Art Car Parade

Houston Art Car Parade on Saturday, May 9, 2009.

SNAP has a new volunteer fundraising activity coming up on Saturday, May 9, 2009, and we need your help. It’s the Houston Art Car Parade! SNAP needs 42 volunteers to staff the beverage booths at the parade between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and lunch. The beverage booths sell beer, so all volunteers must be 18 or above. SNAP will receive all tips collected at the booths as well as a percentage of beverage sales. It’s a fun and easy way to help raise money to spay and neuter dogs and cats! Full story.

SNAP Team Raises $4,500 at AIDS Walk
Walkers Brave Inclement Weather to Help Those Affected by HIV/AIDS

AIDS Walk 2009

The SNAP Team raised $4,500 at AIDS Walk Houston in March. While that total is a bit short of our target of $5,000, it is phenomenal in the face of the economic downturn. We also came much closer to our target than the majority of the larger organizations that marched.  SNAP is grateful to every team member who worked so hard to raise money and who turned out for the walk. SNAP is also grateful to Crocker Bar, who generously held a fundraiser in support of the SNAP team. Full story.

A Masterpiece of Teamwork at Art Festival
SNAP Volunteers Make Bayou City Art Festival Successful Once Again

SNAP Chicks at Bayou City Art Festival

This group of volunteers called themselves the Tanglewood SNAP Chicks and included Pam Harris, Carolyn Johnson, Arlene Payne, Kathy Plaeger, and CeCi Twachtman.

Our volunteers have once again made the Bayou City Art Festival a successful fundraiser for SNAP. While the amount raised was unavailable at press time, it is safe to say that through their hard work, our supporters raised well over $10,000 to help SNAP spay and neuter cats and dogs. The weather on the first day of the festival was a bit murky, but that did not dampen the spirits of our workers in the beverage booths. Rousing cheers could be heard going up from the booths every time customers deposited tips in the tip jars. The weather also had little effect on attendance. The festival had its biggest turnout ever, which bodes well for the amount of funds raised by SNAP volunteers. Full story.

A Big Day for Big Dogs
Silver Eagle Dog Day Event in San Antonio Sterilizes 49 Animals

Silver Eagle Distributors L.P.

Silver Eagle Dog Day in San Antonio a huge success!  The clinic did 49 surgeries, sterilizing 29 female dogs and 20 male dogs. Nineteen of the dogs weighed 50 lbs or above. The original target was to sterilize 35 animals, but the day was inadvertently overbooked. San Antonio chief of staff Mary Kate Lawler, D.V.M., did not want to turn anyone away, so all of those who showed up got their animal spayed or neutered thanks to the incredible dedication of the SNAP San Antonio team! Full story.

Starting Off on the Right Foot
Houston Youths Raise $155 to Spay-Neuter Dogs and Cats

What can a group of children do to help fight animal overpopulation? Plenty, as it turns out. Recently a group of Houston youngsters started a lemonade stand to benefit SNAP spay-neuter programs.  By selling lemonade for 25 cents a cup, the young animal advocates raised $155.16. That's enough money to provide two free spay or neuter procedures for animals whose owners lack the funds to pay for the surgery.

“Every dollar raised makes a huge difference in our efforts to stop animal overpopulation,” said SNAP board member Pam Harris. Full story.
