Visit the San Antonio Botanical Garden During Spring Break
Press Release

January, 2009

Need activities for the kids during Spring Break? Do you have visitors coming to stay with you this spring? Experience the San Antonio Botanical Garden - an urban oasis of color right in the heart of the city. The Garden offers two types of guided tours during Spring Break, March 9-15, and a guided birdwalk on March 21. Plus, families can bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the beauty of the Garden's natural surroundings. Bring a camera along for photos of the children posing with colorful wooden cut-outs specially decorated for the spring.

Tours in the Garden are free with admission

Tours conducted by trained volunteers will be offered each morning March 9-15 at 10:30 a.m. The Garden Tour includes the history of the Garden as well as information on the Formal Gardens' colorful plantings, the exotic plants found in the Lucile Halsell Conservatory, and native vegetation found along the Texas Native Trail. The Watersaver Walk tour takes visitors along the SAWS-sponsored Watersaver Lane which showcases a cluster of miniature cottages. Each cottage has a different architectural style and is complemented by its own attractive front yard planted with water-friendly landscaping.

These tours start at the Carriage House and are filled on a first come, first served basis with an 18-person limit. The Garden Tour will be offered March 10, 12 and 14. The Watersaver Walk is scheduled for March 9, 11, 13 and 15.

Another tour offered during Spring Break is the Beginner's Birdwalk on Saturday, March 21 at 9:00 a.m. Birding enthusiasts are encouraged to explore the Garden's 33 acres for resident, breeding and migratory species. An updated list of birds seen at the Botanical Garden can be found at www.sabot.org or ask for one at the Garden entrance.
