NEWLY APPOINTED TO THE TEXAS HISTORICAL COMMISSION, MCKNIGHT FOCUSES ON PRESERVING THE GREAT HISTORY OF THE STATE OF TEXAS
TEXAS HISTORICAL COMMISSION

April, 2017

Seventh generation Texan, Catherine McKnight, has been newly appointed as Commissioner for the 2017-2023 term of the Texas Historical Commission.  

The Texas Historical Commission (THC) is the state agency for historic preservation in the great state of Texas; recognized nationally for its preservation programs.  Their staff consults with citizens and organizations in order to preserve Texas’ history through its architectural, archeological, and cultural landmarks. The commission is composed of nine citizen members appointed by the governor to staggered six-year terms. 

Raised in west Texas where her family has had ranching and oil interests since the early 1900s, Catherine McKnight has had a long history of dedication and commitment to the state of Texas, its history, preservation, and growth. A resident of Dallas, McKnight serves as Associate General Counsel for Children’s Health System of Texas. She attended Texas Christian University and received her Bachelors of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Texas at Austin. 

Having received her Juris Doctorate from Washington University School of Law, McKnight is a member of the Dallas Bar Association, the Texas State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the American Health Lawyers Association.  She is also a member of the Delta Delta Delta Alumnae and a former member of the Junior League(s) of Dallas and St. Louis.

McKnight thanked Governor Abbott for the honor and privilege of serving on the Texas Historical Commission and is looking forward to making a difference in Texas. 

“Not only am I trying to preserve the great history of Texas,” said Catherine, “I also want to ensure that the students in our state really grasp the importance of our history, as well as the significance and relevance such history plays in the future of our state.”
