San Antonio-area nonprofits in need of structural improvements can apply now through April 7 to receive a 2017 Facility Grant worth up to $100,000 from Silver & Black Give Back. Through SBGB’s work with youth-serving programs, the foundation recognized that many of the kids in our programs were playing in facilities that were in desperate need of repair. It didn’t take long to create the Facility Grant to help fund improvements to ensure a safe place for children.
Brooks Inner City is one of these sites. It has run the Spurs Youth Basketball League since the early 1990s and is completely volunteer-run. More than 1,000 youth go through their organization every year and the gym is home for many of these kids. The mission of their program is to enhance the quality of life, as well as expand opportunities through activities that energize the mental, spiritual and physical development of youth to seek success in life and to provide the most basic of all human needs: a sense of belonging. The last thing they wanted was to have their kids come to an unsafe gym every day. So they applied for the Silver & Black Give Back Facility Grant… and won BIG! Over the course of the grant, Brooks Inner City has received: a new roof, new backboards, new lighting, new water fountains, new bleachers and a new air conditioner. More importantly, the kids who call the gym home have a new outlook and have seen firsthand that anything is possible!
If your facility needs a facelift or even some major renovations, apply for the Silver & Black Give Back Facility Grant! All youth-serving nonprofits in Bexar County are eligible to apply. For more information visit: http://www.sbgb.org/sbgb-facility-grant/.
