A Very Special Celebration to be held Dec. 2 at Special OlympicsTexas HQ in Austin
Special Olympics Texas (SOTX)

November, 2016

Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) invites the public to celebrate the holiday season in a giving way at its second annual A Very Special Celebration event on Friday, Dec. 2 from 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at The Christi Stanley Building – the organization’s Chapter Headquarters at 1804 Rutherford Lane in Austin. The elegant cocktail affair will feature fun and festivity, including hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine, live and silent auctions.

Tickets to attend are $50 per person at www.sotx.org/celebration or $60 at the door. Proceeds will go to SOTX’s Capital Campaign, which is currently 92 percent complete.

The evening will open with a cocktail hour and silent auction from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., followed by a live auction and the pulling of the winning raffle ticket for a 2017 Toyota Tundra model 1794 Edition.

Kent Crank, who is well known in the wildlife and conservation circles, will serve as the auctioneer. Crank has been featured on several TV shows, magazines and videos produced by various organizations.

The live auction will feature several highly anticipated items, including a pair of tickets to the College Football Playoff National Championship (Jan. 9, 2017 in Tampa, Fla.) with a hotel stay provided by Hotels for Hope. Tickets to the 2016 game proved to be the highlight item in last year’s live auction, as the bidding closed at $45,000.

Other items to be featured in the auctions are: rare baseball cards and sports memorabilia, combo pack of passes for South by Southwest and Austin City Limits Music Festival, a seven-day trip to Pueblo Sun City Beach and much more.

Since May 17, SOTX has been selling chances for an opportunity to win a 2017 Toyota Tundra model 1794 edition. Raffle tickets can be purchased at www.sotx.org/toyota from now and until 7:00 p.m. CT on Dec. 2. The winner of the Texas-manufactured truck will be announced at 9:00 p.m. that evening.

In 2015, a dream became a reality for SOTX, as it completed construction on its state-of-art headquarter office in Austin.  The second annual A Very Special Celebration will celebrate the milestone and aim to further the completion of the Capital Campaign, which launched in 2014 to pay for The Christi Stanley Building.

After nearly 13 years of renting space to house its headquarter offices on Chevy Chase Dr. in Central Austin, SOTX and White Construction Company broke ground on SOTX’s new home in April 2014 and completed the project in May 2015.

The $7.1 million facility was funded by donors, largely in part to Amber and Steve Mostyn, who provided a gift of $2 million in honor of Amber’s mother Christi Stanley, whom the building is named for.

By making the decision to construct a permanent building instead of continuing to pay rent at a vastly increasing rate, SOTX is now in a position to build financial equity in the land and building, while being able to maximize the impact of all donations on its ability to support program services.

The Christi Stanley Building was designed with athletes, families and coaches in mind and proudly reflects SOTX’s heritage. It features high-tech conference, training and meeting rooms with adequate space for public and private events, as well as ample on-site storage for competition equipment and supplies.
