Statewide Sailing & Kayaking Competition in Dallas This Weekend

Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) athletes, representing the Duncanville ISD, Mesquite Parks and Recreation and Space Center Rockets delegations, will compete http://www.sotx.org/competitions/sailing-and-kayak/16_sailingkayaking_header.jpgin the annual statewide Sailing and Kayaking Competition in Dallas on Saturday, Oct. 8 and Sunday, Oct. 9. The Sailing competition will run on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at Corinthian Sailing Club and Sunday’s Kayaking competition is expected to run from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.at White Rock Boathouse.

                                                                                                                   

Both competitions feature a Unified Sports division, which offers athletes with intellectual disabilities and Unified Partners without intellectual disabilities the opportunity to train and compete on the same team. This program helps promote inclusion in sports and everyday life.

 

Thirty-one SOTX athletes and 11 Unified Partners are expected to compete in the Kayaking, while seven athletes and 11 Unified Partners are slated to take to the water for the Sailing competition

 

Kayakers will compete in various events, including 200M and 500M Unified Tourist, Doubles Tourist and Singles Tourist races. Sailors will vie for a medal in one of five levels in the Sailing Monohull event. from Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each race.
