McConnell & Jones LLP has selected federal assurance specialist, Mark Schwartz, CPA, CFDM, to join the firm’s Washington, DC office as Director, Assurance and Advisory Services.
Schwartz is considered a subject matter expert in federal audit, internal controls, and financial reporting. He offers extensive experience in executing CFO Act audits for federal agencies, and with more than 24 years of experience, he has performed assurance work for the Departments of Agriculture, Army, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Justice and Navy. His background also includes financial advisory and compliance services to the Environmental Protection Agency as well as the Departments of Air Force, Homeland Security, Treasury and Veteran Affairs.

Schwartz, who has served as engagement leader for the first year audits of Homeland Security, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the U.S. Marine Corps, is a certified public accountant licensed in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. In addition to bachelor degrees from Indiana University as well as the University of Maryland, he holds a Certified Defense Financial Manager credential from the American Society of Military Comptrollers, and is an active member of the Association of Government Accountants, the American Society of Military Comptrollers, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
