Authentic Voice and Human Writes with ALLISON HEDGE COKE

Recent events in the world, especially here in Dallas, have given us all pause. Varying backgrounds; ideologies; over-the-top politics; prejudices; fears--all clash daily in social media, on TV, while talking. What is real? What is authentic? What is Truth? How do they differ?

Whether you are a writer of fiction, creative non fiction, poetry, or plays for screen or stage, this course will help you get past your own hesitations to find the integrity inside yourself as you bring your work to greater clarity.

American Book Award winner, ALLISON HEDGE COKE, is the author of Dog Road Womanand Off-Season City Pipe (poetry); Rock Ghost, Willow, Deer, a memoir; Blood Run, a verse-play; and most recently, Streaming. Hedge Coke has edited eight additional collections, including Sing: Poetry of the Indigenous Americas and Effigies. A Native American writer who has heavy personal roots in both Oklahoma and Texas, she has cropped tobacco, worked fields, waters, and factories--and the many truths learned through these experiences have all impacted her writing and her readers.

Poetic Imitation and Innovation with
LOGEN CURE

Imitation offers a poet a way to break out of habits and try new strategies. Writers at any level can benefit from this type of conscious practice. Join LOGEN CURE for this four-week ON-LINE class to explore imitation as a tool to discovery and increased poetic skill. Participants will create four new works guided by published poems from a variety of poets and styles.

Each week you will read poems and respond to discussion questions. The discussion board will be your space to analyze the readings with the instructor and your peers. You w
ill also write a new draft of an original poem to practice imitation techniques. The instructor will provide the opportunity for you to share these drafts and receive feedback from her and your peers.

GREAT WAY FOR BUSY PROFESSIONALS TO KEEP UP WITH THEIR OWN WRITING!

LOGEN CURE is a published poet and college educator, who earned her MFA from the Univ. of North Carolina at  Greensboro and teaches creative writing at Tarrant County Community College. She is the author of three chapbooks: Still (Finishing Line Press 2015), Letters to Petrarch (Unicorn Press 2015), and In Keeping (Unicorn Press 2008).
