What Nonprofit Employers Need to Know

In May 2016, the Department of Labor (DOL) issued the Final Rule regarding the Fair Labor Standards Act. This ruling strengthens overtime protections and provides additional clarity for employers about overtime and exemptions.
Among other things, the Final Rule increases the salary level above which executive, administrative and professional workers may be exempt from overtime pay to $47,476 per year. Employees paid below this amount “are generally entitled to overtime pay, while employees paid at or above the salary level may be exempt from overtime pay if they primarily perform certain duties”, according to DOL.
