Between legislative sessions, the Texas House of Representatives' committees study issues to prepare for the next session. On May 19, CHILDREN AT RISK (C@R) Senior Staff Attorney, Jamey Caruthers, testified before the Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee on the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act, anti-trafficking laws and reporting systems, and strategies to track demand for commercial sex in Texas. You can read selected excerpts and the full testimony on our blog.

C@R is taking the lead in assembling a human trafficking advocacy collation in advance of the 85th Legislative Session. The purpose of the coalition is to bring together anti-trafficking organizations to craft and fund advocacy for a coordinated legislative agenda in Texas. C@R is also taking part in focus groups hosted by the Governor's new Child Sex Trafficking Unit, and we've had the honor of contributing information to the City of Houston's Strategic Plan designed to make Houston the national model for anti-human trafficking efforts.
Very truly yours,
Dr. Bob Sanborn
