San Antonio Sports is pleased to have been part of the team that helped win a National Civic League (NCL) All-America City Award for the City of San Antonio. The award was announced on Sunday, June 19 in Denver and recognizes communities whose citizens work together to identify and tackle community-wide challenges and achieve uncommon results. This is the fifth All-America recognition the City has received since the award’s establishment in 1949.
San Antonio Sports Youth & Community Programs Director, Mandy Adkins, joined representatives from City of San Antonio departments, the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, KLRN, and Pre-K 4 SA to make the presentation before the NCL jury. This year, the All-America Awards program highlighted community efforts to "ensure that all our children are healthy and successful in school and life" and were judged on civic engagement and collaboration, inclusiveness, innovation and impact.
“I was proud to represent San Antonio Sports and our i play! afterschool program,” said Adkins. “Our presentation really highlighted how our community works together to tackle our toughest problems in collaborative, creative ways for the greater good. The outcomes we highlighted in our application and presentation proved our impact. I look forward to continuing the partnerships that helped us earn this prestigious award.”
The City and its partners submitted the application for the 2016 All-America Award highlighting three community-driven approaches to improving child success:
