Discussions - East Downtown and Discotecas

Coinciding with Jeanette Joy Harris' exhibition Vanishing Discotecas, Lawndale will host a discussion about gentrification in East Downtown Houston. Focusing on how to best provide economic opportunities while maintaining the fabric of this historic neighborhood, panel topics will include: METRO rail expansion, shifts in demographics and economic development. Participants include: Diane Barber, Managing Director of East End Foundation; Diane Schenke, President, Greater East End Management District; Linda Trevino, Senior Stakeholder Affairs Representative, METRO; and David Guerrero, Owner, Andes Cafe. The panel will be moderator by Teresa Schneider, Shareholder, Winstead PC.
Cyanotype Workshop with Caroline Roberts
Saturday, April 2, 2016
12- 2 PM
$20 per person
 
Caroline Roberts will lead a workshop on making cyanotypes or "sun prints" in conjunction with her exhibition All things are reflections of other things on view in the Cecily E. Horton Gallery. Participants will learn the basics of creating photograms with this cameraless photography technique. All ages are welcome, adult supervision requested for children under the age of 11.

Lawndale T-Shirt Design Contest
Lawndale invites artists to submit a T-shirt design inspired by...Lawndale! Be it the building, our name, past exhibitions, our history or your history with us, we want to see what you'd have us print on our Lawndale T-Shirt. 
 
Artists are asked to submit up to three (3) digital entries via Submittable.com. The winning design will be printed in one color (white) onto a black shirt. The selected artist will receive $200 and 3 shirts.
