Upcoming Events

Lacto-Fermented Vegetable Workshop
with the Center for Imaginative Cartography and Research
Saturday, January 9, 2016
12 - 1:30 PM

The Center for Imaginative Cartography and Research invite you to participate in a lacto-fermented vegetable workshop. Fermentation is a process these artists incorporate into both their studio practice and into their daily routine. For their exhibition NIGHT WALK, on view in the Project Space, it served as a creative process both physical and metaphorical: it was used to transform foraged materials into dyes for the large-scale hanging curtain; and it was used to transmute images, ideas, and experiences into sculptural objects and arrangements. Participants will learn about the background of this process, taste samples and prepare a quart of their own veggies to ferment at home.
Fermentation-related prints and zines by the Center for Imaginative Cartography and Research will also be for sale at the workshop. Advance registration is required as space is limited.

Zoetrope Workshop
with Candace Hicks

Saturday, January 9, 2016
3 - 5 PM
$15 per person
Advance registration required

Join Candace Hicks for a zoetrope workshop on Saturday, January 9, 2015 at Lawndale Art Center. Take advantage of persistence of vision and flicker fusion frequency to create the illusion of continuous motion. Zoetropes consist of a cylinder with a series of pictures on the inner surface that, when viewed through slits with the cylinder rotating, give an impression of motion. Participants will be provided with supplies to create their own zoetrope. Advance registration is required as space is limited.
