SBGB Hosts Team Up Day of Service

Nonprofits continue to improve our community through service learning projects

The Stars players, the Fox and Star Squad hit the road for the second annual Team Up Day of Service on August 13! Twelve youth-serving nonprofits who received grants during the Summer Team Up Challenge hosted events benefiting our community in the greater San Antonio area and Austin.

Stars, H-E-B, & SBGB Unveil Renovated Court

37-year-old Community Court in West Side San Antonio Refurbished

The San Antonio Stars players, along with H-E-B and Silver & Black Give Back unveiled a newly renovated court at Inner City Development (ICD) on Monday. As part of the Stars’ WNBA Legacy Project, the 37-year-old outdoor community court was given a much needed makeover to provide the ICD children with a fresh and current space to exercise and practice. The newly designed space was made possible through grants from H-E-B and Silver & Black Give Back.

Stars players Jia Perkins, Danielle Robinson and Sophia Young-Malcolm, along with the Fox, helped unveil the new court to serve a new generation of basketball players. For the story behind the court and the renovation project, click here. Photos of the unveiling can be found here.

Silver & Black Give Back and Kendra Scott have teamed up for a fun shopping event with 20% of sales benfitting SBGB on Thursday, September 10th from 5-8PM. Enjoy bubbles, bites and more while you shop. You can also enter a drawing to win great prizes!

Be A Part of Team Up Challenge!
 
Applications are now open for the 2015-2016 Team Up Challenge Academic Year. The Team Up Challenge is a service learning program that encourages students to take what they are learning in the classroom and apply it to the real world, bringing education alive in powerful waysAny public, private, or charter school students can apply. 

Up to 20 seminfinalists will be selected to receive $2,500 in seed funding to start their projects and five champions will be awarded $20,000 to continue their project. Semifinalists may receive awards such as tickets to games, or mascot or player appearances!

Applications to become a Team Up Challenge Scholar are also open. College students interested in service projects and mentoring young kids should apply to be a TUC Scholar here! Applications are due on September 21st, 2015 and more information on the program can be found here.
