Musician, poet, and artist Lisa Huffacker and poet Robin Turner are excited to bring to youth ages 8-19 a one-of-a-kind art and literature camp experience. Voted "Best of 2012" by the Dallas Observer, in Zine Camp your child or young adult will create his or her own "zine," learning the tools for written self-expression while exploring the artistic (and ecologically-friendly) techniques behind zines and their production. In this course, students will study sample essays, learn what they should and shouldn't include in their essays, brainstorm potential topics, and produce polished essay for their college applications (for ApplyTexas and Common App applications). Writer and performer Catherine Brockette will help you child explore the elements of improv in this this safe and creative environment. Through various games, exercises, and scene work, your child will learn some of the core fundamentals of improvisation such as: trust, communication, agreement (the "yes and" principle), space work, the group mind, character development, and active listening.
