KCOS and Destination El Paso Plan Season Two of Digital Web Series
KCOS El Paso

June, 2015

KCOS, El Paso’s PBS station, PBS Digital Studios, and Destination El Paso seek digital storytellers for Season Two of their digital web series Only in El Paso.

Only in El Paso, Season One launched in the summer of 2014 with 10 digital videos sharing stories of people and places you can experience only in El Paso.  The successful YouTube channel now has over 320 subscribers and 34,000 total views.  View all the videos here.

We believe there are still MANY great local stories to be told, so we’ve made a commitment to Season Two of Only in El Paso.  We are looking for digital storytellers from the El Paso/Juarez area to create and share a short (2- 3 minute) story about something that from their perspective is uniquely and positively El Paso.  Suggested themes include but are not limited to: arts, food, traditions, music, language, economic growth, living on the border, local attractions, and being bicultural.  We want these episodes to resonate broadly- but they should feel totally fresh.  What’s the one thing, place, person, or story in El Paso that you want the world to know about? And remember that the challenge is that the episode and topic will have both local appeal and an interest from a broader audience, since our series will also be shared national through PBS Digital Studios and highlighted by Destination El Paso, which supports tourism to our city.

Benefits to selected producers:

  1. Opportunity to share your video across a broader audience including:
  2. KCOS (El Paso PBS), Destination El Paso, and PBS Digital Studios.
  3. $750 stipend in exchange for your 2 -3 minute video and all rights for its use.
  4. Media coverage of overall series and potentially your particular episode.

Expectations of producers:

  1. Must meet deadlines for initial draft and subsequent edits until video meets KCOS review standards.
  2. That you have acquired rights to all video and audio content in your episode.
  3. Must shoot video on DSLR camera.

To apply, please submit the following:

  1. Your contact info
  2. Links to 2-3 samples of your short-form video work
  3. 2 – 3 ideas for episode topics for Only in El Paso (a paragraph each)
  4. Your 150 word (max) answer to the following question:
  5. Why are you interested in being part of this project?
  6. Resume
