Why is Ken Grumpy? Click to Find Out How You Can Help!
Cibolo Nature Center & Farm

May, 2015

HELP KEN GET HIS MOWER!

The Herff Farm is over 60 acres and Ken, our Buildings and Grounds Manager, has to manually mow about 10 of those acres with a small push mower. As you can imagine it takes a VERY long time and Ken gets grumpy. Plus Ken has many other important projects that he needs to attend to!   Every donation you make to the Big Give San Antonio on May 5th helps us get one step closer to getting Ken’s mower. We need your help to make his dream come true. Please donate at https://thebiggivesa.org/#npo/cibolo-nature-center-and-farmon May 5th.

The Big Give S.A. is a community-wide 24-hour online giving challenge to connect people to the causes that move them most and make giving FUN. Last year’s event raised over $2,000,000 for 467 participating agencies!   Your gift also makes the Cibolo Nature Center & Farm eligible for hourly cash prizes thanks to incentive donations from the day’s sponsors.   Please support your community in conserving the Texas Hill Country and its precious natural resources.

What is the Circle of Friends?
The Circle of Friends is a community of donors that contribute to the annual fund supporting the important work of the Cibolo Nature Center & Farm. Make a donation, and your gift will be used where needed most. Donate to become a member today; you’ll receive a year’s worth of benefits and can feel confident that you are helping the Nature Center’s environmental education programs, research, and conservation initiatives to flourish. In appreciation for your financial support, your membership is complimentary.

Learn All About Ken Hilleman
Title:  Buildings & Grounds Manager
Originally From: St. Louis County, Bridgeton, Missouri, moved to Texas in 1981
Experience: Criminal Justice Major, 25 years with the Houston Police Department, Retired.  I have a long history of home repair, remodeling, wood working, and general
maintenance.
Why I love and protect nature:  My grandfather had two small farms in Middletown, Missouri.  At a very small age I learned about land management, and growing corn and soy beans.  There were also black angus cattle on the farm and a couple of horses.  Our family was able to hunt quail and deer on the property.  My family
 also enjoyed the Missouri State
Parks and we did a lot of fishing for rainbow trout in the current river.  I also had an opportunity to work on a 1400-acre wheat ranch located in Wyoming when I was 14 years old.  So I learned from a very young age about the importance of farming, hunting and fishing, and I want my kids and their kids to have nature to enjoy.  And I am surrounded by several family members including my wife who are Hill Country Master Naturalists.
Why I work at the Cibolo Nature Center & Farm I am outdoor person.  I like repairing things and I like the various tasks.  I am a people person and pretty good handyman.

You can help get Ken's smile back!
