Writers WANTED 
to help"Spread the Word" 
to children and youth.
Collaborating

  

 

The Writer's Garret

seeks writers eager to share their passion for reading and writing in our Writers in Neighborhoods  

& Schools (WINS) enrichment program  

for children, youth, teachers, and families.  

 

 

 

 

 WINS places practicing / professional writers in schools, after-school programs, social service agencies, and community venues throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. All instructors, regardless of past experience, attend a comprehensive training followed by a paid apprenticeship. These are occasional and part-time contract positions modestly funded, but providing substantive experience.

We are especially interested in writers with past teaching experience; knowledge of TEKS / STAAR; appreciation of reading and writing across the curriculum; interdisciplinary talents in arts, video/filmmaking, science, history, geography, and / or math; training in ESL; fluency in Spanish; and the ability to work well with others. We are also looking for volunteer mentors to work one-on-one with children challenged by language, economic, or other barriers, so please let us know if you are interested.
