On Thursday, November 6th, key stakeholders in the Dallas and Fort Worth communities joined Dr. Bob Sanborn to release the second edition of Texas School Guide: Empowering Families to Succeed in Public Education for Dallas ISD, Fort Worth ISD, and local charter schools, as well as a statewide website that includes campus level data for all schools across the state.
Dallas ISD School Board Representative, Elizabeth Jones, said, “There is no choice unless there is a high quality choice.” Michelle Kinder, Executive Director of Momentous Institute, referenced that “parents are the education system’s most underutilized resource.” Dr. Bob Sanborn, president and CEO of CHILDREN AT RISK, concluded, “The Texas School Guide project is truly a one-stop resource for parents that want to maximize their child’s educational attainment in the state.”
The new resource, available in English and Spanish, features 2014 school rankings, letter grades, and school level data. In Dallas and Fort Worth, profiles also include "Innovative Resources," a new section that helps parents identify which organizations and community resources – such as a PTA – are available on their campus.
Copies of the Texas School Guide will be distributed throughout Dallas and Fort Worth in the upcoming months, and CHILDREN AT RISK is hosting a Community Stakeholder Luncheon on November 21, at 12:00 p.m., in Fort Worth on how to use the guides, as well as the corresponding website.
We are excited to share this resource with our partners across the state and hope you find that the Texas School Guide is a valuable tool for engaging families in the public education system!
