It was full speed ahead at the 2014 St. Pius X High School Foundation Gala as the sold-out event raised more than $500,000 and honored Beth and Jim Black as the recipients of the Del Sarto Humanitarian Award.
The largest and most successful gala in the foundation’s history treated guests to an Enchanted Evening on the High Seas at the Westin Houston, Memorial City. Guests kicked off the evening with cocktails, a silent and a big-board auction, and followed with a live auction, dinner and the presentation of the Del Sarto Award.
The 2014 honorees, Beth and Jim Black, were selected for their generosity and commitment to the St. Pius X community. They became affiliated with SPX when their two sons, Andrew ’05 and Adam ’07, began attending the School. Beth dedicated herself to her sons’ education and extracurricular activities, becoming an active participant in the Parent Association and all of their sports activities, including Panther football. She has spent countless hours volunteering at their schools and at St. Simon and Jude Parish in The Woodlands on various events and projects. Beth is also known among family and friends for her thoughtfulness, generosity and her kind and friendly demeanor – qualities that have meant much to St. Pius X and extend well beyond its borders.
Under Jim’s leadership as President and CEO of Moran Shipping Agencies, the family of companies has experienced dramatic growth, becoming the largest independent steamship agency in North America. During his illustrious career, Jim has enjoyed active affiliations with many associations and organizations. He is chairman emeritus of the SPX High School Board and is the current president/chairman of the St. Pius X High School Foundation Board of Trustees.
Beth and Jim’s commitment to SPX has continued beyond the graduation of their two sons. It has manifested itself through financial support, fundraising and providing guidance and sage advice to important and noteworthy school projects.
This year’s event was organized by the Gala Committee, including Gala Chair Cathy Pawlowski, with support from the Foundation. Music and entertainment was provided by Yelba’s Variety Band.
