Children At Risk

November, 2014

Did you know that 1.2 million people are trafficked globally each year, with hundreds of thousands trafficked within our US borders? C@R established The Center to End the Trafficking and Exploitation of Children (CETEC) in 2007 to combat domestic minor sex. Take a moment to watch our new video on human trafficking and our efforts to combat the fastest growing criminal industry in the world.

This month we announced the launch of our improved Human Trafficking Database. This tool allows social service providers, law enforcement agencies, researchers, advocates and stakeholders to share information and resources in the Texas anti-human trafficking movement. We also hosted our 2nd Annual Human Trafficking Summit October 21st, with over 150 stakeholders in attendance. One of the highlights was hearing survivor Cheryl Briggs talk about her brave journey from sex slave to safe house provider.

C@R is committed to raising awareness and educating the community on human trafficking through significant media outreach and continuing legal education conferences.  Both our North Texas and Houston offices have joined Demand Abolition’s project to reduce the demand for commercial sex by 20% in two years, and we hope you’ll support our efforts. • The Center for Parenting and Family Well-Being convened the 2nd meeting of the Family Strengthening Coalition to continue work on a needs assessment in North Texas. Preliminary reports indicate that priorities will be providing an evidence based curriculum for members, as well as building a community database of parenting resources to be added to the current map of services in the area.

  • We welcomed Liz Gould to the team and look forward to her work in research and community outreach for Parenting & Family Well-Being.
