KCOS, El Paso’s PBS station, has recently named Emily Martin Loya General Manager. She most recently served as Chief Marketing Officer since joining the organization in September of 2013. Emily has been responsible to oversee all aspects of development, community engagement, outreach, production, programming, and events at the station.
Over the last year, Ms. Loya has worked diligently to forge stronger community partnerships for outreach, content and funding. Some examples include: parent engagement workshops at local Headstart sites to empower parents to leverage PBS content on-air and on-line to improve their children’s literacy skills, and partnering with the Destination El Paso to launch a new web series entitled, Only in El Paso with content curated from local digital storytellers and funded through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign and a PBS Digital Studios matching grant.
Prior to KCOS, Emily worked for New York Life Insurance Company’s Cultural Markets team coordinating marketing and recruiting efforts to Latinos in the El Paso area. Her first role in El Paso was as the Community Initiatives Coordinator at the United Way of El Paso County, where she developed Young Leaders Society in El Paso, formed El Paso’s first Global Youth Service Day coalition, and managed the Volunteer Action Center. Before moving to El Paso in 2007, she was a part of AmeriCorps in Boston and served as the volunteer coordinator of an afterschool program.
Over the years Ms. Loya has served on a variety of community boards including Public Relations Association of the Southwest and Junior Leadership El Paso.
Ms. Loya was raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies with a minor in Spanish, and while serving in AmeriCorps in Boston, she completed a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Northeastern University.
