CHILDREN AT RISK Newsletter
Children At Risk

August, 2014

As children across the nation are heading back to school, we in North Texas are preparing for a productive season of research and advocacy to brighten the futures of our kids and remove barriers to their success. Our one-stop-shop for school information in North Texas, Texas School Guide, includes data and school choice information for the Dallas Independent School District, Fort Worth Independent School District and area charter schools. This fall we are expanding the Texas School Guide statewide, and you will be able to search for elementary, middle and high schools across the state, and the new website will reflect data from our 2014 School Rankings. Stay tuned for more information about the release and opportunities to learn more about this resource!

Along with our commitment to provide information about neighborhood school choices, we are also proud to increase our work on school nutrition to ensure students are eating enough healthy meals. 77,000 poor Texas children are now receiving free breakfast, enabling them to start their school day ready to learn. We are now expanding our efforts to address food insecurity to include increasing access to after school-meals, as well eliminating food deserts in DFW.

With six upcoming educational and critical fundraising events in September and October, we hope you will find time to join us in envisioning a world where children’s needs are a made a priority, and in providing children and their families with the resources needed to truly thrive.

Hug your kids,

Dr. Bob Sanborn
