ELIGIBLE FAMILIES MUST PRE-REGISTER BY AUG. 1 FOR 10TH ANNUAL TARRANT COUNTY BACK TO SCHOOL ROUNDUP ON WEDNESDAY, AUG. 6, AT WILL ROGERS MEMORIAL CENTER
Tarrant County Back To School Roundup

July, 2014

Summer may just be underway, but it’s not too early for eligible families to pre-register for the 10th annualTarrant County Back To School Roundup, presented by Walmart and Sam’s Club. Families must pre-register by Aug. 1 in order to attend the 10th-annual event, which will take place Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2013, from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m., at the Will Rogers Memorial Center’s Amon G. Carter Exhibit Hall (3401 W. Lancaster Ave., Fort Worth, TX 76107).

A one-stop shop to prep the whole family for the first day of school, Roundup will provide free school supplies to pre-registered students pre-K through 12th grade who meet specific eligibility requirements. Roundup also will offer families health, dental and vision screenings, immunizations, haircuts and information on education, health and social services. Plus, pre-K through 5th grade students will receive a free backpack. Other highlights will include musical entertainment, kids activities, games, interactive demonstrations and more.

Registration events are being held throughout Tarrant County. (See schedule below for remaining locations and times.)  For details, call 2-1-1 or visitbacktoschoolroundup.org.

“There is a great need to help our children in Tarrant County,” said Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley. “If we can get our children the essential school supplies and services so they are ready to learn on the very first day of school, then we have made a great difference in their lives and improved their chances for educational success.”

Judge Whitley noted that this is a community effort and added his thanks “to the local business community, nonprofits and numerous civic groups who have helped to make this day possible.”

Free services for students will include immunizations, dental screenings, fluoride applications, toothbrushes, toothpaste, vision screenings and haircuts. All family members are welcome to take advantage of free health screenings (including blood pressure and glucose checks).

“On behalf of Walmart and the Walmart Foundation, we are proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Tarrant County Back to School Roundup which impacts so many children in the Fort Worth area as they get ready to head back to school in the fall,” said Curtis Scheffe, Walmart market manager. “Walmart is passionate about helping people live better and making a positive impact where we live and work. We know this event will help thousands of Tarrant County children and their families get what they need to have a great start to the school year.”

Educational information, in English and Spanish, will be offered at community resource booths focused on literacy, parenting, nutrition, financial literacy, fire safety and social services. Representatives from Tarrant County schools will be on hand to answer questions and distribute materials on reading programs, psychological and social services, and family literacy.

Parking is $10 at the Memorial Center, or free parking is available at Farrington Field, located at the corner of University and Lancaster. Free shuttle service between Will Rogers and Farrington Field will be provided. In addition, The T will provide free bus service on Aug. 6 to Roundup participantsutilizing the Fort Worth public transportation service (pre-registration voucher required).
