Today, Lutheran Social Services of the South (LSS), an organization committed to ending multi-generation child abuse through innovative children’s services, announced the leadership appointments of Michael Loo as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Evan Moilan as Chief Mission Officer (CMO).
“Lutheran Social Services of the South is thrilled to appoint Evan Moilan as the first Chief Mission Officer in our organization’s history,” said LSS CEO Kurt Senske. “Evan has proven his dedication to serving the faith-based community and helping those in need throughout his career. With his visionary leadership, we look forward to advancing our mission and expanding our reach as the premier provider of children’s services in Texas.”
“LSS is fortunate to have Michael, a leader with equally strong experience and character, as its next Chief Operating Officer,” said LSS President Betsy Guthrie. “Michael’s outstanding record of guiding organizations during critical moments of growth and change and his compassionate management approach are certain to benefit both our staff and constituents during this exciting time in our organization’s history.”
Loo, who has served as LSS’ Chief Financial Officer since 2013, assumed the role of COO effective June 1. Guthrie, who has served as LSS’ President and COO since 2007, and Loo are beginning a transition process that will continue until Guthrie’s retirement on December 31, 2014. Ultimately, Loo will oversee the departments of operations, programs, information technology, human resources and finance. Loo has extensive experience in strategy development, financial structures, organizational planning, and financial aspects and systems.
Loo has more than 25 years of business and industry experience, including 18 in higher executive management positions such as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Prior to joining LSS, he served as vice president of finance and administration of Kamehameha Schools, the largest private landholder and private school system in the State of Hawaii. Loo is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Oregon.
Moilan, who joined LSS in July 2013 as Chief Development Officer, has been appointed to Chief Mission Officer effective immediately. He will oversee all external relations functions for the non-profit including development, marketing, public relations, community relations, disaster response and earned income ventures. An experienced non-profit executive, Moilan is an accomplished public speaker, fundraiser and strategist for organizational growth.
Prior to joining LSS, Moilan held leadership positions with faith-based organizations including Lutheran Foundation of the Southwest, Lutheran World Relief and Lutherhill Ministries. Moilan is a graduate of Arizona State University.
