ChildSafe would like to extend a huge thank you to all in San Antonio who participated in the non-profit’s first Cardboard Kids awareness campaign, which kicked-off April 3rd, as part of National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The response to and support of Cardboard Kids was nothing short of overwhelming! With help from the community, ChildSafe was able to share the important message about child abuse in Bexar County that included almost 1,000 clicks to www.childsafe-sa.org to learn more; over 500 contributors on Twitter (@ChildSafe); and 1400+ photos on Instagram, with 100 photos uploaded per hour on social media on April 3rd!
So, now that April and Child Abuse Awareness Month are coming to a close, what’s next? And what do we do with those cute Cardboard Kids?
Thanks to our partners at Jefferson Bank, you can take your Cardboard Kid to any of their bank locations for recycling (for locations & hours: www.jeffersonbank.com/locations). Or you can keep your Cardboard Kid as a reminder of the number of children in our community that still need our help.
But whatever you do, don’t stop talking about it. Keep learning more about child abuse: how to recognize it and how to report it. Keep being vigilant with the children in your life. Share the message – with your family, your colleagues, your neighbors and your friends.
“As a community, we must stand up for our children. They have a right to be safe, to grow up strong, to be protected, “said ChildSafe CEO Kim Abernethy. “Don’t let Cardboard Kids be the end of the message; let it be the beginning of the conversation,” she said.
ChildSafe is Bexar County’s only Children’s Advocacy Center. Its staff performs forensic interviews, crisis intervention, case management services, counseling, and advanced therapy to aid in the healing of child victims of abuse and neglect. And they work with law enforcement and prosecutors to bring perpetrators to justice.
