The Witte Museum announces the Fairytale Fiesta exhibition, opening on Thursday, April 17, 2014. Visit a world of fantasy in Fairytale Fiesta with fiesta gowns inspired by fairytales, myths and magic. This year’s featured pin dress will be 1941’s Queen of the Court of Legends. The gold lame dress and train worn by Margaret Walker features the underwater kingdom of Atlantis with coral, starfish and seahorses worked in coral velvet and rhinestones. Other dresses on display will be the Duchess of Romantic Destiny, the Duchess of Youthful Enthusiasm and the Duchess of Insatiable Curiosity, from the 1983 Court of Never Neverland representing the Princess and the Pea, the tale of Peter and the Wolf, and Alice in Wonderland.
The Witte Museum is one of the few locations in San Antonio to learn about Fiesta’s history from its origins in 1891 with the Battle of Flowers Parade to today’s Fiesta San Antonio events. The Witte’s annual exhibition of Fiesta gowns, accompanied by informative interpretive signage, sparks the imaginations of visitors of all ages. Fairytale Fiesta is generously supported by the Fiesta® San Antonio Commission and the City of San Antonio Department for Culture and Creative Development.
About the Witte With over 400,000 visitors annually, the Witte Museum promotes lifelong learning through innovative exhibitions, programs and collections in natural history, science and South Texas heritage.
