Millions of Girl Scout Cookies Arrive
San Jacinto Council fo Girl Scouts

January, 2014

It's going to be mega weekend for Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council, one of the largest Girl Scout councils in the country. More than 350,000 cases of Girl Scout cookies will hit the streets of Houston just in time to celebrate

National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend, starting February 7. That's more than four million packages. The world's youngest entrepreneurs-in-training took orders for more than a month as part of the Girl Scout Cookie Program, the largest girl-led business in the world and the country's premier financial literacy program for girls.

On Saturday, February 8, amidst delivery trucks, forklifts and endless rows of cookie cases, volunteers will work their way down a long line of waiting cars as hundreds of Girl Scout troops pick up their cookie orders at Sam Houston Race Park, located at 7575 North Sam Houston Parkway West, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

"Each year members of our local community look forward to receiving America's favorite cookies, and we are truly grateful for the support they have given us," said Mary Vitek, chief executive officer of the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC). "For decades, the Cookie Program has taught girls important life skills, including money management, decision making, people skills, goal setting and business ethics."

Parents and local volunteers will line up to pick up their cases of cookies that will then be delivered to customers eagerly awaiting the arrival of their purchases. Those who haven't put in orders still have time to satisfy their cookie craving as the sale ends March 30.

Girl Scouts of the USA has declared February 7-8 National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend, a special time for Girl Scouts and Girl Scout supporters to share with the community the importance of the Cookie Program, the skills girls learn and the impact those who participate make in our communities.

Beginning February 21, girls will begin selling cookies at booths located outside of grocery stores and other local retail venues. To find a booth in their area, customers can call 1-888-GS-COOKIE or enter their zip code in the Cookie Booth Finder App downloaded from iTunes or Google Play .

Girl Scouts of the USA is the world's preeminent organization for girls, with a membership of more than 3.2 million girls and adults. Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Chartered by GSUSA to provide Girl Scouting locally, Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council is the second largest Girl Scout council in the country serving more than 62,000 girls and 19,000
adults in 26 southeast Texas counties.
