STEPHANIE HAS PUT THE FINISHING TOUCHES ON SEASON 18 and it will be posted online as this arrives in your inbox. But, we wanted to let you know about it before we tell the rest of "the world" -- whether that means San Antonio and the region or further afield in the world of chamber music.

With the success the last few seasons of our collaboration with the San Antonio International Piano Competition in inviting their most recent Gold Medal winner, CPMF continues to put out the welcome mat for SAIPC's 2012 celebrated winner, Lo-An Lin. In Week 1, the extraordinarily gifted Lo-An is joined by an equally talented quartet of musicians. CPMF favorites violinist Bella Hristova, violist Ara Gregorian return and a bright star and stellar solo cellist makes his debut: Jonah Kim. Stephanie is excited to perform with this ensemble in works by Bach, Mozart and César Franck in Program 1, GOLDEN KEYS. Program 2, 2Oth CENTURY PASSAGEWAYS, includes jewels of the 20th century repertoire with works by Joaquin Turina, Ernest Bloch, Amy Beach and Bella Hristova's homeland favorite Bulgarian Pancho Vladigerov.

Nine more magnificent musicians fly into San Antonio for Week 2. Two of our favorite husband and wife teams are back: harpsichordist Christina Edelen and cellist Fred Edelen, as well as the cellist "team" of Beth Rapier and Tony Ross. Baritone Timothy Jones is back for Program 3: HIDDEN DOORWAYS: Rare Treasures for Baritone, Oboe & Strings. Taiwanese oboist Rong-Huey Liu will mesmerize the audience with her first appearance at the festival. She is joined by virtuosos Dmitri Pogolerov, violin, Aloysia Friedmann and Dave Harding, viola, all musicians who have graced the festival's halls and performances in the past.

Program 4 brings back a full program of the ever-loved Baroque composers. THE BAROQUE BAEDEKER (through France, Germany & Italy) features works by Leclair, CPE Bach, Rameau, Vivaldi, Corelli and JS Bach. It's a program, if we can count on past years as indicators, that will fill the house with avid fans of the Baroque period.

A Board Member Has a Way with Words

We didn't realize we had a budding James Thurber, Jules Feiffer or Dan Wasserman in our midst. But in early January, we were very pleased to find out that our own PAUL GIOLMA was in the running at
The New Yorker to caption an editorial cartoon that
TNY had published.

You can go to the link below to see the cartoon and the three captions that vied for top honors. Although Paul did not win the online voting that decided the winner, here in San Antonio we still think his was the best of the lot.

We will let you know in future eNotes if any other of our budding literary stars makes it into the pantheon of literary greats!

A New Funding Season

CPMF continues its work all year round to bring San Antonio, Boerne and the region the best in chamber music, the best in concert performances, and the best in musical experiences.

Fall/Winter is an especially lean time in our funding cycle. If now is a good time for you to make your yearly contribution to CPMF, we greatly appreciate fall quarter giving. Thank you, from all of us.

Any contribution, large or small, is greatly appreciated and helps to further our musical mission in San Antonio and the region. Thank you.
