SPX Cross Country Team Posts Personal Bests in The Woodlands
St. Pius X High School

October, 2013

Each member of the St. Pius X High School girls cross country team logged personal-best times on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Woodlands Christian Cross Country meet.

The girls were rewarded for their efforts with a third-place finish and the boys placed seventh. The girl’s field included seven teams, while the boy’s field consisted of 10.

Junior Martha Priestly led the girl’s squad, finishing seventh among a field of 79 runners. She had a time of 13:45 over the 3,200-meter course. Immediately following was ninth grader Carrie McIntrye in 13:50. Sarah Walker came in 10th place (13:59) and Kathleen Blute placed 14th (14:19).

Sophomore Sean Fagan was the top Panther finisher among the boys, placing 22nd over the 5,000-meter course with a time of 20:08. The boy’s field included 104 competitors.

“The team has worked so hard all season and it is gratifying to see their efforts result in great performances at the end of the season,” said head SPX head coach Erin Van Wassenhove. “It was a good confidence-building race going into the state meet.”

The Panthers travel to the TAPPS state cross country meet in Waco, Texas, on Saturday, Oct. 26. Visit http://tapps.net/athletics/cross-country/ for more meet information and results.
