(For writers of all shapes, sizes, & flavors!)

The Elements of Creative Writing with

Joe Milazzo

6 weeks: Wednesday Evenings, October 16-December 4

(no class October 30)

6:30- 9:30 PM

10809 Garland Road, Dallas 75218

The Writer's Garret (next door to Lucky Dog Books)

Via regular in-class writing exercises, readings, and  discussion, this 18-hour
course offers a comprehensive overview on how to build and sustain a writing practice.
"The Elements of Creative Writing" is designed to help every writer come away with
fresh insights: novice writers will be guided through the appreciation of how writing
is both art and craft; more experienced writers will discover new ways to hone and
master essential skills at every turn. Participants will have ample opportunities
to generate new writing and to participate in group critique that will focus on
each individual's work. Please note: This course is a prerequisite for many of our
other offerings.

Getting Your Work Published
with

Joe Milazzo

Saturday, November 2, 12:30 PM - 4:30 PM

10809 Garland Road, Dallas 75218

The Writer's Garret (next door to Lucky Dog Books)

In  this 4 hour intensive workshop, editor and published writer Joe Milazzo  will
lead participating writers through the entire process of  submitting stories, poems
and essays for publication, from identifying  markets to formatting manuscripts
to knowing what to expect (and when)  from editors.

In the process, this class will also provide opportunities  to discuss the pros
and cons of both print and online publication, to  research tools for evaluating
markets, to demonstrate proper etiquette  and sharp communication skills, to share
tips and tricks for tracking  multiple submissions, and to manage both acceptance
and rejection.

All  in all, we will work together to demystify the business of publication  and
to remove those feelings of inadequacy, intimidation, and  discouragement that
stand in the way of getting what you want out of  making your work available to
a wider readership.
