The 2013-14 Team Up Challenge semifinalists will be announced on Monday, Oct. 7 at the AT&T Center with help from R.C. Buford, President of Sports Franchises and General Manager, the Coyote, and the Silver Dancers. Silver & Black Give Back will surprise the 20 Team Up Challenge semifinalists and distribute $50,000 among the groups to begin their service-learning projects. The Team Up Challenge is a youth-led service-learning program that encourages students to apply what they are learning in the classroom to the real world, bringing education alive in powerful ways. Students create projects that address needs that will improve their community in one of five categories: Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, Health & Wellness or Uniformed Services. Throughout the year, Team Up Challenge groups will work alongside Spurs and Rampage players to bring their projects to life in the community.
Next spring, five groups will be selected as Champions based on their work and presented with a check for $20,000.
This year’s Team Up Challenge semifinalists: Bexar County Academy (Leading Leaders), Big Country Elementary School (Camp Half Blood Book Club), Brewer Elementary School (Third Grade), Cisneros Elementary School (Community Service Club), Connell Middle School (The Knight Writers), Harris Middle School (Green Team), Hartman Elementary School (Student Council), Jordan Intermediate School (“Because We Can” Leadership Club), Keystone School with the Playhouse San Antonio (TRIBE), Metzger Middle School (Mustang Muscle), Martin Luther King Academy (National Junior Honor Society), Pershing Elementary School (Gardening Club), Rodriguez Elementary School (Baking with Books), St. Luke’s Episcopal School (St. Luke’s Tigers), Stevens High School (GT Leadership Class), Storm Elementary School (The Bobcats), Vineyard Ranch Elementary School (Learners to Leaders), Whittier Middle School (National Junior Honor Society), Wilson Elementary School (Gardening Club), and Zachry Middle School (Book Club).
