AUSTIN – The Settlement Home for Children has named Darcie DeShazo as its new Executive Director. DeShazo replaces Linda Addicks Kokemor, who retired from The Settlement Home after 32 years.
Darcie DeShazo is a native Austinite. She graduated from Anderson High School and from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor’s in Psychology in May of 1999. Darcie immediately came to work at The Settlement Home as a Youth Care Counselor on Moody Cottage, then a Houseparent on Scarbrough Cottage and in November of 2000, was promoted to Evening Coordinator/Relief Supervisor. In 2002, Darcie returned to The University of Texas for her Master’s Degree in Social Work and continued working at The Home on our Relief Team.
In January 2004, Darcie moved to Australia for an internship with the Anglicare Loss and Grief Center in Adelaide, South Australia. Upon her return, Darcie worked as an Interim Cottage Supervisor/Therapist for a few months and then moved to London, England to work for a social service agency that served youth aging out of the foster care system. She obtained a post-grad work permit that enabled her to work in London for 6 months.
Upon her return, Darcie again worked Relief until a Cottage Supervisor/Therapist position opened at Moody Cottage. Darcie worked as Moody Cottage Supervisor/Therapist for 5 ½ years. In April 2011, Darcie was promoted to Director of the Group Home Program. In June 2012, Darcie was promoted to Associate Director.
Darcie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and is a Board Certified Clinical Supervisor. She is a Licensed Child-Care Administrator (LCCA) and a Licensed Child-Placing Agency Administrator (LCPAA).
For the past 13 years, Darcie has shown her devotion to the children and the agency.
