You can STILL register for TONIGHT'S Course on Motivation, Actions, and Intentionality
in Characterization
an independent modular section of the overall concept
"Getting Your Characters from Thought
to ACTION"

with

JOE MILAZZO

The Writer's Garret

10809 Garland Road, Dallas 75218

Sometimes, in order to better understand their  characters, writers focus on interior
lives:  their feelings, memories, dreams, and musings. But any given  character
in any given story is also an actor, and should spend much of  his / her time DOING,
not just being. Collectively, in these three courses, writers will be  encouraged
to practice various techniques for getting their characters  into action, via dialogue,
physical description, point-of-view, and  interactions with both their setting (or
environment) and other  characters. These three courses will help writers guide
their readers in the delicate business of  relating to their characters as if they
were "real people."

Each Individual Course:

"The ELEMENTS of FICTION"

with

KEVIN KAISER

Wednesday evenings starting next week

August 7-28

6:30-9:30

The Writer's Garret

10809 Garland Road, Dallas 75218

In this 12-hour course,  we will concentrate on those matters of design, structure,
and textual  production associated with fiction. We will explore as well as practice
working with a technique or technical issue (e.g., point-of-view,  setting, plot,
etc.) specific to the creation of prose fiction. Such  practice will occur in the
form of both writing exercises and careful  critical reading of model texts. In
the final 2 weeks of the course, we  will address issues of both and apply the insights
derived from our  discussions in workshop.

"The Elements of Fiction"  is designed for all levels: to help novice fiction writers
familiarize  themselves with the salient features of fiction, and to give more
experienced writers an opportunity to study these features in greater  depth. All
participating writers will have opportunities in this class  to develop healthy
writing habits.
KEVIN KAISER received   his Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Chatham
University  and  has taught creative writing to both kids and adults from Pittsburgh
to  California. Kaiser's short stories and poems have been published in   numerous
national print and on-line journals, and in 2011, he was a   finalist for the Disquiet
International Literary Program International   Literary Award, judged by Chris Abani.
Currently, Kaiser is an Adjunct Professor at Strayer University and a publisher,
professional actor, composer, and former feature writer covering the literary beat
scene.

If  you are an educator and a member of The Garret, a partner agency,  senior, or
student, you may take 50% off registration by using the  promotional code EDUCATE.

If  you are a member of a partner agency, senior, or student at an  accredited college
or university, you may take 25% off by using the  promotional code PARTNER.
