Heart Gallery of Central Texas Activities – September 2013
In September the Adoption Coalition of Texas will celebrate its 9th Annual Heart Gallery of Central Texas and we need your help! Every day, more than 600 foster children in Central Texas wait for nurturing parents and permanent homes. These are children that have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. From infancy through adulthood, the odds are stacked against them. Too many of these children never find a family and “age out” of the foster care system at age eighteen. From there it is very often a tragic downward spiral for these kids. In order to avoid this much too frequent outcome, these children deserve the opportunity to find their forever family. One way to accomplish this is through the Heart Gallery of Central Texas.
The Heart Gallery of Central Texas is an ongoing photographic exhibit and online gallery showcasing the talents of renowned area photographers who capture the hearts and souls of foster children waiting for a family and a home. Since January 2005, The Heart Gallery of Central Texas, a vital program of the Adoption Coalition of Texas, has helped hundreds of children of all ages find loving adoptive families because of the increased publicity and interest garnered by the portraits. This year’s gallery will again highlight more than 100 children legally free for adoption in Central Texas.
Although the Heart Gallery of Central Texas is in operation throughout the entire year, during the month of September we will spotlight and celebrate the ninth year of the Heart Gallery of Central Texas by hosting several events and exhibiting our newest portraits in a number of locations around the region. One highlight is a festive reception and exhibition on September 18 at Austin City Hall in honor of the sponsors of the Heart Gallery of Central Texas and the area photographers who volunteer hundreds of hours and drive countless miles to make this program possible.
It would be our honor if you would consider sponsoring the Heart Gallery of Central Texas for the upcoming year. In addition to serving as a host of the September 18 Reception, your sponsorship will allow the Heart Gallery to continue its work to find adoptive families for the hundreds of foster children in our region for another year, to include more photos, to increase the number of exhibits as well as to fund new media platforms to display the pictures. Your donation will be recognized on our website and at all Heart Gallery events throughout the coming year, and the impact of your generosity will be felt by hundreds of children who finally find their “Forever Families.”

Trey - 6/2002
Trey is active, funny and a perfectionist. Trey loves the outdoors and he enjoys most sports, but football and basketball are his favorites. His favorite football team is the Denver Broncos. Trey also likes swimming and playing board games, especially the game “Ants in the Pants.” Trey’s favorite movie isFree Willy, even though he says he always cries at the end of the movie. He also likes playing video games on his Nintendo DS. Trey loves to go out to eat and his favorite foods are French fries, Frito pie and corn dogs. During the summer, Trey enjoys swimming. He has a great sense of humor and can often be found laughing with others.
Trey does well in school and needs extra support in the classroom. Trey likes his work to be perfect before he turns it in. He laughed when reporting his favorite subjects are lunch, recess and PE. Trey is working to overcome past trauma and will need time to form healthy attachments. He is working hard to use his words and coping skills when frustrated. Trey sometimes has a low frustration level and he is learning to take responsibility for his actions. Trey responds very well to a consistent routine and structure.
Trey needs an adoptive family who is active, enjoys sports and outdoor activities. He would benefit from a family who has a clear understanding of attachment issues. Trey would do best in a home with older children or no other children. He needs a strong educational advocate. Trey would also benefit from playing a team sport to help with self-esteem, teamwork and sportsmanship. Trey’s siblings are part of another adoption and Trey must have a family who is open to sibling contact.
For more information on Trey, please contact Stephanie Berka at the Adoption Coalition of Texas by email email@example.com or by phone: 512-450-8750.
