Friday, May 17th was a special night of art and entertainment benefiting the abused and neglected girls at New Life Children’s Center. Mike Lewis, also known as “the Jesus Painter,” created art on-the-spot right before the eyes of more than 150 participants who gathered at the New Life campus. His whirlwind style integrates performance, painting, storytelling, music, and faith all blended into three creative art pieces. Each canvas was auctioned off at the end of the evening, along with original works of art by the New Life girls. Paula and Jim Rieker took home “Christ’s Eyes,” The Dean Family will enjoy “Intimate Portrait,” and Kristen & Joseph Cantu successfully bid on “Proof to Thomas” and graciously donated the painting back to New Life where it will be displayed.
Was it performance art? Speed painting? A backdrop for worshipping Jesus? In fact, it was all of those things and more, as the audience would attest. An Italian buffet from Gennario’s Trattoriawas served and thanks to the generosity of our event sponsor, Danny Dean and Thrivent Financial, all proceeds raised directly benefit the girls at New Life.
A big thank-you to all the New Life supporters who attended—Click HERE to see photos of a truly entertaining event!
