We’re very excited to share some good news with you from the legislative session!
Senate Bill 503 (West): Expanded Learning Opportunities passed the Texas Senate this Thursday, April 18th! We’d like to thank Senator Royce West (D-Dallas) for his support and leadership on the carrying the bill throughout this session.
Please stay tuned for our advocacy updates as this bill heads to the House Public Education Committee.
SB 376 (Lucio) and HB 296 (Rodriguez): Targeted School Breakfast passed both the House and Senate Education Committees with unanimous support! We have been preparing to advocate on behalf of this critical bill during the interim session and the years of hard work have paid off! Targeted expansion of the existing breakfast programs is an option that many schools across the state are implementing in response to ensuring every child in their school has an opportunity to eat breakfast in an environment that ensures adequate nutrition, provides adequate space and timing for eating breakfast, and fosters community, rather than stigma among students.
Please keep this bill moving by contacting your senator as the bill goes to the Senate Floor for vote.
Lastly, HB 3241 (Thompson): Providing Penalties to Civil Prosecution of Racketeering Related to Trafficking of Persons and HB 90 (Thompson, Bonnen): Civil liability for Compelled Prostitution and Certain Promotion of Prostitution were both heard in the Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee this past Monday, April 15th.
These bills are currently left pending in committee, please contact the committee members and urge them to vote favorably on these bills!
