Impacting Our Community
As I complete my first two months with San Antonio Sports, I’d like to share the great joy I have from seeing firsthand the impact we have throughout our community. Our goals are to help develop healthy kids, create places to play and host events that impact. I have had the opportunity to engage with our team in each of these areas over the past few weeks.

We recently completed a site visit with USA Swimming to discuss our bid for the 2016 United States Olympic Trials for Swimming and you can rest assured that we provided a very compelling case for bringing this major event to San Antonio. To the 12,515 of you that participated in our “I’M IN” campaign and our partners from the Marriott hotels, Hilton Palacio del Rio, The RK Group, Express-News, Clear Channel Outdoor and everyone involved from the City of San Antonio – thank you!

I have visited all 13 of the new Bexar County sports facilities that will impact the health and quality of life for our children and their families for many years. We are working closely with Bexar County to launch the Bexar County Games - a series of youth competitions throughout the county to introduce these facilities to our citizens.

Also, we launched our 10th annual Valero Go! Kids ChallengeTM, a program that reaches over 180,000 elementary school students teaching the importance of routine exercise and proper nutrition that will help in the fight against childhood obesity. Here’s a shout out to Cambridge Elementary School for hosting our kickoff event!

Thank you for being part of our team!

San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute
Hall of Fame More than 900 guests enjoyed a memorable evening and saw the transformational power of sport first-hand as the class of 2013: Norm Charlton, Joe Conrad, Nell Fortner, Larry Kenon and Ed Whitacre, were inducted into the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame. The San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute is San Antonio Sports’ largest fundraiser and we raised $181,000. Proceeds benefit our kids programs, including our afterschool, club diving and volleyball programs, as well as our school-based Valero Go!Kids ChallengeTM and ING Kids Rock marathon training program. Scorpions and Toyota Field Ready for Fútbol

Soccer in San Antonio will take another major stride forward Saturday, April 13, when the Scorpions play their first North American Soccer League (NASL) home match of the 2013 season at colorful new Toyota Field.

The Scorpions, last season’s NASL regular-season champs, will take on the Tampa Bay Rowdies, 2012 playoff champions, in the home opener. “The Scorpions franchise is unique in that all net profits from the team and Toyota Field go to help expand programs and services for the special-needs community through non-profit Morgan’s Wonderland, the world’s first and only ultra-accessible theme park,” noted Scorpion’s President Howard Cornfield.

More information about the Scorpions FC, including ticket sales, is available at www.SAScorpions.com. Morgan’s Wonderland information can be found at www.MorgansWonderland.com or by calling (210) 495-5888.
