Texas experienced its worst single-year drought in 2011 as well as historically extreme and extensive wildfires. Approximately 350,000 acres of the Davis Mountains and surrounding desert grasslands were burned. This combination of drought and wildfire undoubtedly impacted the avian communities of the Davis Mountains.
Rich Kostecke has been conducting bird surveys in the Davis Mountains high country and will present preliminary results and discussion on how the drought and wildlfires might be impacting the birdlife of the Davis Mountains.
