For Division I soccer fans, it’s the last chance to see the Big 12 Conference in action in San Antonio when the city is the site of the Big 12 Women's Soccer Championship Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, Oct. 31, Nov. 2 and 4 at Blossom Soccer Stadium, 12002 Jones Maltsberger Rd. The nonprofit San Antonio Sports will co-host the conference championship with the University of Texas for the 16th consecutive and final year. The conference boasts two new teams, Texas Christian University (TCU) and West Virginia University, which will be competing for their first Big 12 Championship. To Pack the House for this last championship, San Antonio Sports is offering “buy one, get one free” coupons at the gate or select sporting goods stores.
The top eight teams in the conference qualify for the Big 12 Championship tournament, based on overall conference results that are determined by a point system. The winner of the Big 12 Championship receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Games begin on Oct. 31 at 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The semifinals on Nov. 2 begin at 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The championship game on Nov. 4 is at 1:00 p.m.
Tickets are available online at http://www.sanantoniosports.org/big12.htm or at the gate. All online purchases will be held at the Blossom Soccer Stadium “will call.” Select sporting goods outlets in San Antonio (Bicycle Heaven, Soccer City, Soccer Guru-Sports Center, Soccer Locker, Soccer Factory, Soccer World, Classics Elite Complex and San Antonio Sports) offer “buy one, get one free” coupons which can be redeemed at the gate.
Day passes are $7 (children under 5 are free), 3-day tournament passes are $15, and 20-ticket team packages are $99. San Antonio Sports is also bundling the Big 12 Soccer Championship with the NCAA Div. III Men’s & Women’s Soccer Championships (Nov. 30, Dec. 1 at Blossom Soccer Stadium). Tournament passes for both the Big 12 Championship and the NCAA Division III Soccer Championships are $25.
