Mayor's Fitness Council Announces 2012-13 Student Ambassadors
City of San Antonio

September, 2012

The San Antonio Mayor's Fitness Council is proud to announce that it has selected 35 students, grades 5 – 12, from Bexar County public and private schools to serve as Mayor's Fitness Council Student Ambassadors.  These students were selected through a competitive application process to recruit a diverse and energetic group of students to promote health in San Antonio.

The mission of the Mayor's Fitness Council Student Ambassador Program is to involve San Antonio youth in Mayor Castro's initiative to improve the health of San Antonio. Student ambassadors will represent the Mayor's Fitness Council by promoting and encouraging healthy living at their campus and in their communities.

Student ambassadors will take part in leadership training on September 22 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  Student ambassadors will complete a roadmap on health issues in their school, after school, home, and neighborhood environments. The roadmap will be used to help student ambassadors select a project to implement in the coming year to promote healthy eating, physical activity or other healthy behaviors.

In addition to the Student Ambassadors, all youth in Bexar County who are interested in joining the movement to improve the health of San Antonio are encouraged to contact Andrea Bottiglieri to sign up to join the Mayor’s Fitness Council Student Wellness Club.  Students who participate will receive invitations to special health and fitness events as well as an electronic newsletter on health and fitness.

The mission of the Mayor’s Fitness Council is to transform San Antonio into a healthier and more active community. The Mayor’s Fitness Council is the lead party for the SA2020 bold vision for making San Antonio’s residents among the healthiest in the nation by the year 2020.
