Recognizing and Celebrating the
2012 Texas Health Champion
Founder and Executive Director
Please join us on September 13th as we recognize Kay Morris with the 2012 Texas Health Champion Award at the 5th Annual Texas Obesity Awareness Week Award Ceremony.
Kay Morris started Marathon Kids™ in her small apartment in Austin, with the simple mission to build joyful community around children and be quickly accepted into public, private and home schools as a free, innovative celebratory fitness and nutrition program. Now, seventeen years later, over 1,500,000 children have taken the 26.2-mile Marathon Kids challenge.
|About Marathon Kids™|
The evidence-based program is a free six-month endurance building running/walking, nutrition and schoolyard gardening program for K-5th graders and their families. Studies have shown that kids who participate in the program make healthier food choices, exercise more minutes per day, and have a greater sense of athletic self-perception.
"Kay is a true inspiration. Her story -- turning a personal passion into a program that reaches hundreds of thousands of kids -- sets a tremendous example for adults and children about what is possible when we put our minds to something," said Nona Evans, Executive Director of Whole Kids Foundation.
