Students Visit Neal Farinah
Recently, students and staff at the BeyoncéCosmetology Center had the opportunity to visit celebrity hairstylist Neal Farinah at his salon in Brooklyn, New York. After a tour of Neal’s new salon, our students observed his stylists at work, gaining insight into different hairstyles and learning new techniques. Education has proven to be a vital tool in recovery, and the trip was a tremendous opportunity for our students to learn from professionals and enhance their own vocational studies.

Clients competed for an opportunity to record their original music through the Phoenix Rising Music Program, created by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriterKara DioGuardi. Two client judges critiqued each performance while the audience had the final say through voting. This year’s winner was Tracy for her original song “Living Free.”

I was already drinking and smoking weed by the time I was 14, and soon I was doing crystal meth. I stopped using drugs when I got pregnant at 16, but after my daughter was born, I started using again. I was evicted from my apartment and my daughter was taken away from me. By 18 I was in jail and knew things had to change. I enteredPhoenix House Santa Fe Springs and I came to love the program. It helped me get back on track with my education and be the person I was supposed to be. Today I’m 31, going on 3.5 years sober, and living in my own apartment with my children again.
