The Center for Public Policy Priorities (CPPP) will host its annual Texas Kids Count breakfast briefing Thursday, April 5, 2012 at the Omni San Antonio Hotel Colonnade. The event, sponsored by Methodist Healthcare Ministries, will feature Texas Kids Count Director Dr. Frances Deviney, and a panel of community experts who will examine findings from the newly released Choices: The State of Texas Children 2012. The briefing is expected to draw local and state children’s advocacy and health policy experts, as new data is unveiled that shows how Bexar County and Texas children fare in comparison to the nation.
Dr. Deviney will present the key findings from The State of Texas Children, which offers a county-by-county perspective on issues ranging from poverty, food scarcity, and teen birth rates. Invited panelists, who include State Representative Mike Villarreal; Senior Vice President for United Ways of San Antonio and Bexar County, Toni Van Buren; and Associate Director of Policy Reform and Advocacy at The Annie E. Casey Foundation, Dennis Campa, will also evaluate the impact recent state and federal lawmakers’ decisions have had on children and families at the local level.
To arrange an interview with Dr. Deviney please contact CPPP Communications Director Brian Stephens at (512) 565-320-0222 x 112.
